MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — First Community Mortgage raised nearly $41,000 for local charities through its third annual Tyler Morrissey Memorial Golf Tournament, held October 13-14 at Indian Hills Golf Course in Murfreesboro. The event featured over 50 teams and 25 sponsors.
This tournament was created in memory of Tyler Morrissey, the son of Bob Parks Realty employee Melinda Morrissey. Tyler was killed in a car crash in 2008 when he was 21 years old.
“This tournament is held in memory of Tyler to celebrate his life,” said Keith Canter, CEO of First Community Mortgage. “I’m thankful his parents, John and Melinda, allow us to represent their son with this great tournament that brings so much joy to people in our local community.”
The 2016 tournament supported three charities, donating:
- $30,000 to Bob Parks’ Christmas for the Children, which allows more than 125 families to celebrate the holidays with a party and gifts they may not be able to afford.
- $5,000 to The Miracle Field in Murfreesboro, which gives disabled children and adults the opportunity to play sports at a facility created specifically for them. The foundation was established by Murfreesboro native and Major League Baseball pitcher David Price.
- $6,000 to FCM cares, Inc., a non-profit foundation started by Canter to support local community initiatives. The donation will be used to fund a portion of the Andrew C. Rambo Memorial MBA Scholarship at Middle Tennessee State University.
“As the tournament grows in numbers, it grows in dollars as well, giving us the opportunity to touch even more lives,” said Canter. “We are so thankful for all the volunteers and sponsors who made the annual event a great success.”
